Your facial should always start with a consultation. Your therapist needs your input on your skin concerns and issues. Be honest, and let her know areas that bother you or areas of concern. That helps your therapist direct you to the most rewarding facial option. Next, she gently, but thoroughly cleans your face and neck so it can be analyzed to determine skin type (dry, oily, combination, normal, and perhaps sensitive). Acne, aging, dryness, and damaged skin assessment also occurs at this time. Your therapist will suggest facial treatment(s) most appropriate to your skin and desired outcome.
Some facials include gentle steam depending on our skin type. The moist heat is very relaxing and prepares your skin for the next step in a facial. An exfoliant may be follow, which can be mechanical, using a fine textured ingredient or can be chemical, such as an enzyme.
Removal of blackheads and whiteheads if needed occurs next. This can be a bit uncomfortable, so some prefer to skip this step if a relaxing treatment is the final goal. Then a facial mask is applied and chosen with your specific skin concerns in mind. A gentle head, neck and face massage either before or after the mask heightens the relaxing experience.
The final step to this luxurious treatment is application of serums, moisturizers, and a sunscreen specific to your skin type. Your therapist should offer advice on how to maintain your skin and suggest products that can help you maintain healthy, beautiful skin.
