With this issue, we want to honor our daughter Kristi who died twelve years ago in an auto accident. She was the catalyst that started us on this soul journey and brought so much light into our lives. As we look back on the past twelve years, we marvel at where we were and at where we have come to be. The journey is not yet finished, but there is more joy in our hearts and we are confidently moving forward, knowing that Kristi is guiding us and smiling down on us always.
From the very beginning we have honored Kristi’s passing by hosting the Kristi Visocky Memorial Golf Tournament, the largest golf tournament in Northern Colorado, and Kristi’s Big Night Out event. (The absolute best party of the summer!) Since its inception in 2003, with the help and support of an amazing community, the Foundation has awarded $200,000 in scholarships to 90 area young women, $100,000 to build a house for Habitat for Humanity and over $100,000 in support to area organizations.
Proceeds from this year’s tournament will go to support Fort Collins SAVA – Sexual Assault Victims Advocacy program. We want to help create a community without sexual violence. If you cannot imagine what that looks like, you are not alone. But together, we can help make that vision a reality. Funds raised at the tournament will be used to support middle school programs that educate students about sexual violence and its consequences. The goal is to change the culture around sexual violence.
This year’s festivities include Kristi’s Big Night Out Party on Friday, July 24 at the Fort Collins Senior Center. Theme for this year’s event is Caddyshack and includes food from 12 area restaurants, music, a silent auction and lots of fun!
The Caddyshack theme continues on Sunday, July 26 at Collindale golf course with a scramble-format tournament that includes prizes, a steak lunch and the “Ugly Pants” contest. Whether you’re a pro or just a duffer, it’s definitely a great time, and you don’t have to be good to participate, so no excuses. Sponsorship opportunities are still available and volunteers are needed for both events.
